Baz Luhrmann on his collaboration with Erdem and H&M:
"In the old movies, for example, Givenchy made the costume for Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. She went and saw Givenchy herself and said can you make my dress and so fashion’s speaking directly through cinema.
Now it is again. "
Let's take a look at some of the most iconic partnerships of Designers and their On-Screen Moments!
1. Hubert Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn in most of her movies
Ever since they struck up their friendship while working on her 1954 movie, Sabrina, they have struck a working and personal relationship that spanned the decades. They started the trend of a powerful Designer - Movie Celebrity combo, with many others that followed lead.
2. Balmain and Brigitte Bardot in And God Created Woman
Long before Olivier Rousteing and Kim Kardashian had their relationship going with cinched-waisted structural pieces, Balmain had his own muse that was the talk of town in his days - Brigitte Bardot. He created sensual pieces for her for the movie And God Created Woman, which illustrated her strong character well - inhibited, with an innocent undertone.
3. Manolo Blahnik and Marie Antoinette / Sex And The City
If there was any shoe designer that got plenty of screentime, and drew cult status in the 90's and 00's, it would be Manolo Blahnik! Carrie Bradshaw's favourite footwear designer found himself designing the covetable shoe collection for Marie Antoinette herself in Sofia Coppola's 2006 movie. To-die-for!
4. Monique Lhuillier and Lana Lang Smallville
Designer wear aren't necessarily all big screens either! Lana Lang from Smallville decided to wear Monique Lhuillier's Fall 2006 collection for her wedding with Lex Luther! A vision we can't quite get out of our minds.
5. Rodarte and Natalie Portman in Black Swan
A partnership that had a Rodarte designed and made 7 ballet costumes for the Black Swan - combining art and architectural structure.
